Our specialized experience includes <br />design for data centers, healthcare, science and technology, high-rise buildings, clean energy, education, <br />and other building types as well as structural and building sciences, infrastructure asset management, <br />advanced robotics, and more. <br />Job Summary <br />As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and coordination of mechanical <br />systems for mission-critical data centers and other high-performance facilities across the U.S. You will <br />collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to develop innovative HVAC and <br />mechanical system designs that meet stringent reliability, redundancy, and energy-efficiency standards. <br />This position offers opportunities to grow professionally within a collaborative, technology-driven, and <br />employee-owned organization. <br />Key Responsibilities <br /> Develop detailed mechanical and HVAC designs, calculations, and construction documents for <br />mission-critical facilities. <br /> Perform system design and equipment selection for chilled water, air handling, and cooling <br />systems. <br /> Coordinate with electrical, structural, and controls disciplines to deliver integrated design <br />solutions. <br /> Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and contractor RFI responses. <br /> Support field reviews and commissioning activities to ensure design intent and performance <br />requirements are met. <br /> Apply relevant codes and standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IMC, and local <br />building codes. <br /> Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define scope, schedule, and technical requirements. <br /> Contribute to continuous process improvement and mentor junior staff where applicable. <br />Qualifications & Experience <br /> Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master’s preferred). <br /> 3+ years of experience in HVAC and mechanical system design, preferably in mission-critical, <br />data center, or high-tech facilities. <br /> Strong understanding of mechanical system redundancy, energy efficiency, and load diversity <br />principles. <br /> Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design tools such as HAP, TRACE 700, or similar. <br /> Working knowledge of CFD analysis, energy modeling, or sustainability design practices is a <br />plus. <br /> Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. <br /> EIT certification required; PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) strongly preferred. <br /> Authorized to work in the United States. <br />Benefits <br /> Experience in high-tech industries and mission-critical environments. <br /> Unique, large-scale data center projects across North America. <br /> Professional development and mentorship opportunities. <br /> Supportive and innovative team environment. <br /> Competitive salary, benefits, and ownership opportunities through the Salas O’Brien employee<br />ownership program. <br />Location: United States (Remote) <br />Travel: <15% <br />Equal Opportunity Employment Statement <br />Salas O’Brien provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment <br />and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type.
