Our specialized experience includes design for data centers, healthcare, <br />science and technology, high-rise buildings, clean energy, education, and other building <br />types as well as structural and building sciences, infrastructure asset management, <br />advanced robotics, and more. <br />Our technical expertise is paired with an exceptional team of business development, <br />human resources, finance and accounting, information technology, and marketing <br />professionals, all of whom play a key role in bringing our commitments to life every day. <br />Job Summary <br />As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering <br />electrical designs for large-scale data centers, from early design through construction <br />support. You will focus on power distribution, backup power, grounding, and system <br />reliability, contributing to projects that demand the highest standards of safety and <br />uptime. While this role is not the overall project lead, you will take ownership of <br />assigned deliverables, provide technical input during multidisciplinary coordination, and <br />support junior staff when needed. <br />Your background in power system design, substations, and industrial/utility-scale <br />projects will be valuable as you contribute to mission-critical facilities for some of the <br />largest technology clients in the world. <br />Key Responsibilities: <br /> Develop electrical system designs including MV/LV distribution, UPS, standby <br />generators, grounding, lighting, and monitoring systems. <br /> Perform load flow, short circuit, and arc flash studies using SKM, ETAP, or <br />EasyPower. <br /> Review drawings, calculations, and vendor documentation for accuracy and <br />compliance. <br /> Support BIM/VDC teams in the modeling and coordination of electrical systems. <br /> Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and client-specific standards. <br /> Assist with QA/QC reviews and internal design checks. <br /> Provide construction-phase support including responding to RFIs, reviewing <br />submittals, and supporting field activities. <br /> Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and internal <br />teams. <br />Qualifications & Experience: <br /> Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. <br /> 10+ years of electrical engineering experience, with strong background in utility, <br />industrial, or mission-critical facilities (data centers, BESS, substations, power <br />plants). <br /> Hands-on expertise in MV/LV power distribution, emergency/backup power, <br />protective relaying, and redundancy strategies <br /> Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, or similar tools for system analysis; AutoCAD and <br />Revit familiarity preferred. <br /> Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and utility interconnection requirements. <br /> Professional Engineer (PE) license required (multi-state licensure a plus). <br /> Strong communication and organizational skills; able to work effectively in <br />collaborative and remote environments. <br /> Authorized to work in the United States. <br />Benefits: <br /> Experience in a high-tech industry within an international company <br /> Unique, cutting-edge data center projects <br /> Comprehensive training and professional development opportunities <br /> Supportive management and a dynamic team environment <br /> Competitive compensation package <br />Location: United States (Remote) <br />Travel: <15% <br />Equal Opportunity Employment Statement <br />Salas O’Brien provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants <br />for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard <br />to race, colour, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected <br />veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other <br />characteristic protected by federal, state/provincial, or local laws.
