Mission Lane is combining the power of data, technology, and exceptional service to pave a clear way forward for millions of people on the path to financial success. By attracting top talent and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we’re enabling people to unlock real financial progress. Sound like a mission you can get behind?

We’re looking for a Director, Accounting to own day-to-day accounting and treasury operations, reporting to the Controller.

The impact you’ll make:

A Mission Lane customer trusts that when they make a payment, it’s recorded right, that their balance reflects reality, and that the company behind their card is solid enough to keep showing up for them next month and the month after that. None of that happens on its own. It’s built close by close, reconciliation by reconciliation, by an accounting team getting the details exactly right. The Director, Accounting owns that foundation, keeping the numbers behind every customer’s progress ready to stand up to scrutiny.

In your first year, you’ll take full operational ownership of the day-to-day close and treasury accounting, tightening the close calendar and refining internal controls, audit readiness, and AI-enabled workflows toward IPO readiness demands. You’ll do that by:

Leading the month-end close, from pre-close prep through balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis, shrinking the calendar as you progress

Owning the monthly consolidation across our multi-entity structure, keeping intercompany eliminations clean and GAAP compliance airtight

Directing the annual financial statement audit as our primary external liaison, managing the PBC list and keeping the whole lifecycle on schedule

Serving as the go-to partner for our external tax advisors and for Treasury on settlement accounting, restricted cash classifications, and reserve calculations

Bringing AI agents into journal entries, reconciliations, and variance reporting, turning the close into something faster and sharper rather than just another deadline

Building and developing a small, high-performing accounting team, working alongside them as a player-coach rather than directing from a distance

You’ll thrive in this role if:

You’ve run a multi-entity close from the inside and know exactly where the friction points hide.

You get real satisfaction from turning a messy reconciliation into a clean one, and from teaching someone else how to do the same.

You can lead a team through real process and culture change without losing their trust, even when the change touches how they’ve worked for years.

You see AI as a way to make your team’s work better, not a threat to it, and know how to bring skeptics along.

Minimum Qualifications:

Active CPA and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including 5+ years leading a team

Deep, hands-on experience with month-end close, financial consolidation, and GAAP compliance in a multi-entity organization

Direct experience leading external financial statement audits end to end, including PBC management

Working knowledge of the COSO framework and PCAOB standards related to ICFR, with experience designing and testing internal controls

Proficiency with NetSuite or a comparable enterprise ERP, plus advanced Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in financial services, consumer lending, or credit card issuing and servicing, especially with sponsor bank models, card networks, or payment processors

Experience with Snowflake, SQL, or a BI tool like Tableau

A track record of bringing AI or automation into accounting workflows

Compensation:

Annual full-time starting base salary range: $158,000 - $213,000

This role is eligible for additional compensation in the forms of participation in our annual incentive and equity programs.

Pay is based on factors such as work experience, education, certification(s), training, skills, and competencies related to the role. Mission Lane also offers a comprehensive benefits plan, which includes paid time off, 401(k) match, a monthly wellness stipend, health/dental/vision insurance options, disability coverage, paid parental leave, flexible spending account (for childcare and healthcare), life insurance, and a remote-first work environment.

About Mission Lane:

Founded in December 2018, Mission Lane is a purpose-driven fintech company based in the U.S., with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

It all started with a realization: nearly fifty percent of the adult population in the U.S. doesn’t have access to a clear line of credit.
