Job Description

Talent is evenly distributed,

opportunity is not.

We exist to change that.

The National Education Opportunity Network (NEON) is a rapidly scaling education justice non-profit that seeks to propel economic mobility by democratizing access to higher education. We deliver and support actual college credit-bearing courses from our nation’s top universities (Howard, Stanford, Wharton, Spelman, Brown, Wesleyan, Dartmouth, and more) into teacher-led high school classrooms in low-income, Title 1 high schools - at no cost to students. Since our inception in 2019, we have reached nearly 60,000 scholars from 160 districts in 34 states and are on track to serve 1 million scholars within the next decade.

We are a passionate team of former education and civil rights leaders, teachers, policy-wonks, and consultants – with an active board, including former U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan; founder of the Children’s Defense Fund, Marian Wright Edelman; University of Pennsylvania Professor, Angela Duckworth; CEO of the Common App, Jenny Rickard; and former Howard University President, Dr. Wayne Frederick.

To learn more about our mission and our work, please read this New York Times front-page feature [https://edequitylab.org/new-york-times-features-national-education-equity-lab-partners/], this Forbes article [https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaeltnietzel/2024/11/26/the-ed-equity-lab-a-leading-college-pipeline-achieves-great--success/], or just click this 3 minute video clip [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CvjQKBwNavQ_fa0LUtcP1ZW1vSjbukfj/view] of the experts (our scholars!) discussing the impact of this opportunity with Judge Ann Claire Williams, Ret., trustee, Carnegie Corporation of New York.

THE ROLE

The Learning Design Associate will support the Learning Design team and other NEON teams (including Course Success, College and University Partnerships, and others, as needed) with Canvas LMS administration, course development, and instructional technology.

Though the role responsibilities will shift to meet the needs of our growing organization, your skills and expertise will be leveraged to: * Support the Learning Design team and cross-functional colleagues with Canvas LMS course maintenance, course infrastructure, and instructional technology needs (35%) Assist in the development and implementation of course content, including facilitation guides, rubrics, scaffolding activities, media, captions, and LMS infrastructure for college courses in collaboration with NEON staff (35%) Conduct course reviews to improve the scholar experience and communicate identified issues, opportunities, trends, and progress across the organization (25%) Design and deliver resources for internal stakeholders on Canvas, instructional design, and other topics as needed (5%)

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: *

Education & Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a closely related field (Master's preferred). * Experience developing courses/content within the Canvas LMS. * Experience teaching or supporting instruction in higher education or secondary education. * Experience creating and editing media using screen-capture and editing tools. *

Skills & Competencies: * Applying instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design, UDL) to plan and organize courses. * Applying accessibility principles (e.g., WCAG, alt text, captioning standards) to digital content. * Familiarity editing Canvas HTML to manage and troubleshoot course content. * Familiarity with Canvas data literacy (e.g., course activity, student success metrics, and learning information systems). * Familiarity with copyright and Creative Commons licensing in an educational context. * Familiarity with interactive content tools such as H5P. * Familiarity with video hosting platforms (e.g., Kaltura, Panopto, YouTube, or Vimeo). * Strong written communication skills, including the ability to document processes and communicate clearly across teams in a remote environment. * Comfort with asynchronous remote collaboration tools (e.g., Slack). * Experience with Salesforce and/or Canvas is preferred. *

Commitment to Educational Equity: * A deep, personal commitment to advancing educational equity and supporting students from underserved backgrounds. * Passion for expanding opportunities and addressing the systemic challenges that exist in Title I schools.

THE SALARY

The Learning Design Associate role offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $55,000 to $70,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. New hires typically start between the range minimum and midpoint. A comprehensive benefits package is also available, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with 4% match (fully vested); professional development support; remote work stipends and equipment; coworking space access; and paid sick leave with flexible vacation.

THE TEAM

The Learning Design Associate will join a fast-paced team committed to providing opportunities for students who have historically and systemically been left out of opportunities. This position will report to the Director of Learning Design. Our organization is 100% remote, with team gatherings throughout the year, and opportunities to travel. Applicants do not need to live in the state of New York.

To be considered for this position, please submit a resume and cover letter on our website [https://neonopportunity.org/join-us/]. This is a competitive and active national search. You will be notified promptly if you are being considered for this position.
