This role will be deeply involved in the creation of safety work products for a wide range of vehicle and automation features, including complex systems such as electric and autonomous vehicle platforms, industrial automation equipment, and battery and energy storage systems for both mobile and stationary applications. etc. </p><p style="color: black; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in;"> </p><p style="color: black; font-size: 12pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in;">The role covers a broad set of safety‑related standards, including but not limited to ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 61511, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, ISO 13849, and other applicable standards pertaining to functional safety, hardware reliability, and system engineering.</p> <h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul type="disc" style="direction: ltr; list-style-type: disc; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-top: 0in; unicode-bidi: embed;"><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Lead the development and review of functional safety work products for vehicle programs, with emphasis on safety lifecycle activities in compliance with ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, and related functional safety standards.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Develop strong safety argumentation and contribute to safety case creation, including evidence‑based justification of system, hardware and software level safety concepts.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Create or support hazard and risk analyses and develop functional, technical, hardware, and software safety concepts for a wide range of vehicle systems, subsystems, and electronic components.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Define and decompose safety requirements based on customer system, hardware, and software architectures; ensure alignment with safety mechanisms, diagnostic concepts, and architectural metrics.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Lead and perform detailed safety analyses, including FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA, STPA, and other analyses covering electronic hardware, power electronics, battery systems, autonomous driving components, and applications ranging from L2 to L4 automated systems.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Perform verification reviews, confirmation measures, and technical assessments, ensuring compliance with functional safety, hardware development processes, diagnostic coverage, and architectural integrity.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Lead technical workshops, safety training sessions, and gap analyses, focusing on safety development, requirements definition, safety analysis, and functional safety best practices.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Lead client programs by interacting regularly with clients in technical program meetings and project reviews. </li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Provide technical assistance to clients in reference to functional safety and related technical fields. Projects may include optional travel to client sites and to other UL locations</li><li style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.</li><li style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Lead business development activities defining Statements of Work (SOWs) and providing budgetary estimates for client proposal development.</li></ul><p>#LI-MB1</p><p>#LI-Remote</p> <h3>Qualifications</h3><ul type="disc" style="direction: ltr; list-style-type: disc; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-top: 0in; unicode-bidi: embed;"><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">The candidate must have hands-on electronics system/hardware/software product design and development experience with a strong focus on safety development lifecycle.</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">M.S. or B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, related technical degree, or equivalent experience</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">5+ years of experience in safety related role in automotive functional safety</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Safety Analysis knowledge including HARA, STPA, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA</li><li style="color: black; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; vertical-align: middle;">Experience working with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 standards</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>This is a Home Based position with some travel expectations to customer sites</strong></p><p><strong>What we offer:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Total Rewards</strong>: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.
