Special events held throughout the year include Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Do What You Love to End Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.</p> <p>Under the Marketing and Communications Department, the Marketing and Communications Intern will gain professional experience across media relations and digital communications. The intern will learn to pitch and place stories with community newspapers, TV, radio and local news media; create and manage social media posts; writing for digital platforms and designing digital collateral using Canva. This internship will support a wide range of initiatives throughout the state, so the applicant must be an upbeat self-starter, organized and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.</p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Pitch stories to news media via phone, email and social media, and follow up on pitches with reporters and editors</li> <li>Draft press releases, media alerts and media pitches</li> <li>Interview families affected by Alzheimer’s disease to develop stories and pitch angles</li> <li>Manage social media promotions and design projects for Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across Florida</li> <li>Draft content for social media, including copy and design that supports awareness and community initiatives</li> <li>Analyze social media analytics to inform posting best practices</li> <li>Support PR for Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across Florida</li> <li>Draft content for blog, newsletter and additional press or digital materials as needed</li> <li>Update and design collateral for digital and print using Canva as needed</li> <li>Support event planning and promotions as opportunities arise</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>Proficient with Microsoft Office</li> <li>Prior experience with Canva preferred</li> <li>Ability to work well independently, incorporate feedback and meet deadlines</li> <li>Understanding of public relations and social media principles</li> <li>Strong writing skills and attention to detail; AP Style knowledge required</li> <li>Desire to approach challenges strategically and creatively</li> <li>Skilled at collaborating cross-functionally</li> </ul> <p><strong>Professional Development</strong></p> <ul> <li>Gain professional experience managing projects and balancing multiple priorities</li> <li>Experience working within a nationally recognized brand framework</li> <li>Work within a high-functioning and inspiring workplace atmosphere</li> <li>Learn and contribute in a local non-profit environment with a national reach</li> </ul> <p><strong>Training & Evaluation</strong></p> <ul> <li>Branding guidelines and style guide will be provided</li> <li>Online training courses (as relevant to internship)</li> <li>Individual training with supervisor for special projects</li> <li>Ongoing evaluation / feedback provided throughout internship</li> </ul> <p><strong>Commitment</strong></p> <ul> <li>One year timeframe with flexibility for Winter break and other holidays</li> <li>10 hours/week, flexible scheduling based on school load</li> <li>Preference to students nearing graduation (junior or senior years) or recent graduate</li> </ul> <p><strong>Application Process</strong></p> <ul> <li>Resume and cover letter</li> <li>List of relevant classes taken that relate to the position</li> <li>Two writing samples (e.g., press release, media pitch or article)</li> <li>One to two design or social media samples, if available (e.g., social graphic, campaign post)</li> </ul> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>Title: </strong>Marketing and Communications Intern</p> <p><strong>Position Location: </strong>Remote, must reside in Florida</p> <p><strong>Part Time: </strong>10 hours per week</p> <p><strong>Position Grade & Compensation: N/A</strong></p> <p><em>The Alzheimer's Association’s good faith expectation for the hourly pay for this role is between $14.00 - $15.00</em></p> <p><strong>Reports To: </strong>Director, Field Marketing & Communications Multi-Market, SE Territory </p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>Who We Are</strong>:</p> <p>The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
