Our ambition is clear: <strong>build a global FinTech category leader and a place where exceptional engineers do the best work of their careers</strong>.</p><p></p><p>💥<strong>What are we looking for?</strong></p><p></p><p>We are looking for a <strong>Staff Software Engineer</strong> to take a key role in the evolution of Embat’s <strong>Payments and Banking domain</strong>.</p><p>This is a <strong>high-impact, high-ownership role</strong>. You will help define the technical foundations of our financial infrastructure, make long-term architectural decisions, and influence how we scale payments and banking products to tens of countries and millions of transactions.</p><p>As a Staff Engineer, you are not only a strong individual contributor but also a <strong>technical leader with horizontal impact</strong>: someone who raises the bar across teams, mentors other engineers, and partners closely with Product and Leadership to turn complex business problems into robust technical solutions.</p><p>Our stack is built with <strong>Node.js and TypeScript</strong>, running on <strong>Google Cloud Platform</strong>, designed to scale fast without compromising on security, correctness, or reliability, which are non-negotiable in financial systems.<br/></p><p>💥<strong>What will you do?</strong></p><p></p><ul> <li><p><strong>Own the technical strategy and architecture</strong> of Embat’s Payments and Banking infrastructure, from design to production and long-term evolution.</p></li> <li><p>Build and scale globally distributed systems capable of handling <strong>millions of financial transactions</strong> with high reliability and correctness.</p></li> <li><p>Lead the development of new financial capabilities, including payments, banking integrations, ledgers, and core money movement services.</p></li> <li><p>Make and drive <strong>strategic technical decisions</strong> that shape the future of Embat’s financial platform.</p></li> <li><p>Act as a <strong>horizontal technical leader</strong>, driving alignment and best practices across multiple engineering teams.</p></li> <li><p>Mentor engineers at all levels through code reviews, design sessions, 1:1s, and hands-on collaboration.</p></li> <li><p>Champion engineering excellence by defining and evangelizing <strong>standards around quality, testing, security, and scalability</strong>.</p></li> <li><p>Collaborate closely with Product, Risk, and Operations to translate complex financial requirements into elegant technical solutions.</p></li> <li><p>Lead the resolution of the most complex technical challenges, setting a benchmark for engineering quality.</p></li> <li><p>Actively participate in <strong>technical interviews and hiring decisions</strong>, helping scale the team with top talent.</p></li> <li><p>Safeguard Embat’s culture, values, and engineering mindset as we grow.</p></li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>What are we looking for?</strong></p><p></p><ul> <li><p>Extensive experience as a Backend or Platform Engineer, with <strong>deep exposure to payments, banking, or financial services systems</strong>.</p></li> <li> <p>Proven experience in at least one of the following:</p> <ul> <li><p>Building global payment infrastructure across local and SWIFT rails with high success rates.</p></li> <li><p>Designing and operating <strong>financial ledger systems</strong> processing millions of transactions.</p></li> <li><p>Developing complex financial products (payments, FX, lending, trading, or similar).</p></li> </ul> </li> <li><p>Strong background in <strong>distributed systems, system design, and scalable architectures</strong>.</p></li> <li><p>High standards for correctness, security, observability, and operational excellence.</p></li> <li><p>Ability to influence without authority and drive alignment across teams.</p></li> <li><p>Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.</p></li> <li><p>A mentoring mindset: you enjoy helping others grow and raising the overall level of the team.</p></li> <li><p>Pragmatic but ambitious: you know when to aim for perfection and when “good enough” is the right trade-off.</p></li> <li><p>Team-first attitude: humility, collaboration, and ownership are non-negotiable.</p></li> <li><p>Background in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.</p></li> <li><p>Languages: <strong>Working proficiency in English &amp; fluent in Spanish</strong>.</p></li> <li><p>Location: <strong>Madrid (hybrid)</strong>.</p></li> </ul><p></p><p>Additionally, any of the below would definitely be great:</p><p></p><ul> <li><p>Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures.</p></li> <li><p>Hands-on knowledge of security, compliance, and data protection in financial systems.</p></li> <li><p>Experience in FinTech, banking, or regulated environments.</p></li> <li><p>Previous experience scaling systems internationally.</p></li> <li><p>Strong opinions, backed by experience, and the confidence to challenge ideas constructively.</p></li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>What comes with working at Embat?</strong></p><p></p><p>We offer a platform that allows you to reach your professional and personal goals.
