<h2>About JerseySTEM</h2> <p><strong>All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.</strong>JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.</p> <p>Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a <strong>minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week </strong>and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.</p> <h2>Overview</h2> <p><strong>This is a pro-bono volunteer position. </strong></p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p>JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.</p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p>The <strong>Community Engagement(COME) Department Head</strong> provides leadership, direction and planning to identify, reach out to and engage with Middle Schools of interest that could benefit from our afterschool STEM programs. Will build and lead a team of Area Managers responsible for designated regions.</p> <p> </p> <h2>Responsibilities</h2> <ul> <li><p>Work to continuously improve and streamline JerseySTEM’s approach to community engagement and outreach</p></li> <li><p>Manage a team of 4-5 direct reports responsible for Business Development, Account Management and Onboarding of targeted schools</p></li> <li><p>Responsible for department budgeting, planning and reporting</p></li> <li><p>Collaborate with College Engagement leadership to ensure staffing alignment between interested schools and universities (for volunteer instructors).</p></li> <li><p>Collaborate with the Corporate Engagement to ensure alignment between the Schools we reach out to and the Companies we seek sponsorship from.</p></li> <li><p>Partner with other JerseySTEM department leadership to plan growth strategies (Marketing, Human Capital etc.)</p></li> </ul> <ul> <li><p>Conduct/Attend virtual team meetings weekly : (Sundays 6 pm EST)</p></li> </ul> <p> </p> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <ul> <li><p>Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap</p></li> <li><p>Strong leadership/team building skills</p></li> <li><p>Resourceful, can-do attitude</p></li> <li><p> Familiarity / understands K-12 schools (as a former educator/ school personnel/ school board member etc)</p></li> <li><p>Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others</p></li> <li><p>Comfort working virtually with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)</p></li> <li><p>Outreach experience preferred</p></li> <li><p>Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week</p></li> </ul> <p><strong>Time Commitment </strong></p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <ul> <li><p>3-6 Hours weekly</p></li> <li><p>6 months minimum</p></li> </ul> <p> </p>
