<h2>About JerseySTEM</h2> <p><strong>All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.</strong>JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.</p> <p>Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a&nbsp;<strong>minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week&nbsp;</strong>and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.</p> <h2>Overview</h2> <p><strong>This is a pro-bono&nbsp; position.</strong>&nbsp;</p> <p>JerseySTEM is seeking an experienced <strong>Atlassian Tools Subject Matter Expert</strong> to support and optimize our use of Atlassian products, primarily Jira, Jira Service Management (Service Desk), and Confluence. This Pro-bono professional will serve as the go-to expert for Atlassian tooling, helping improve project tracking, collaboration, service workflows, and automation across the organization.</p> <p>This role reports directly to Productivity Stack Owner and works closely with cross-functional teams to understand needs, recommend best practices, and implement effective, sustainable solutions.</p> <h2>Responsibilities</h2> <ul> <li>Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Atlassian tools which include Jira DataCenter, Jira Service Management, and Confluence DataCenter.</li> <li>Establish baseline and ongoing operational and value metrics for Atlassian tools, including:</li> <ul> <li>Usage and adoption by teams</li> <li>Effectiveness of workflows and service processes</li> <li>Overall value delivered to JerseySTEM</li> </ul> <li>Analyze and report on how Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence are used across the organization to help leadership understand current-state usage and opportunities for improvement.</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project, service, and documentation needs</li> <li>Configure, customize, and optimize Jira projects, workflows, dashboards, reports, and permissions</li> <li>Implement and manage automations to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort</li> <li>Integrate Atlassian tools with third-party applications (e.g., collaboration, reporting, CRM tools)</li> <li>Support and enhance Jira Service Management processes, including request types, queues, SLAs, and automations</li> <li>Provide guidance, best practices, and light training to users as needed</li> <li>Identify opportunities to improve visibility, collaboration, and operational efficiency through Atlassian tooling</li> <li>Ensure solutions are scalable, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals</li> </ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <ul> <li>5+ years of hands-on experience managing and administering the Atlassian suite, including Jira, ServiceDesk, Confluence</li> <li>Proven experience integrating Atlassian tools with third-party applications</li> <li>Strong expertise in automation within the Atlassian ecosystem</li> <li>Solid understanding of project management and service management best practices</li> <li>Experience gathering requirements and translating business needs into technical solutions</li> <li>Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Nice-to-Have Qualifications</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Experience with <strong>migrations from Atlassian to other platforms</strong> (or vice versa)</li> <li>Atlassian Cloud experience.</li> <li>Atlassian certifications</li> <li>Experience supporting nonprofit or pro-bono members based organizations</li> <li>Familiarity with marketplace apps, APIs, or advanced integrations</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Time Commitment</strong></h3> <ul> <li>6 hours per week</li> <li>6–12 month commitment preferred to ensure continuity and meaningful impact</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Why join JerseySTEM as a Pro-bono member?</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Apply your professional expertise to support a mission-driven nonprofit</li> <li>Make a measurable impact on how teams collaborate and deliver work</li> <li>Gain nonprofit leadership experience while working with passionate volunteers</li> </ul>
