This role requires technical leadership, deep problem-solving capability, and a strong focus on scalable, maintainable systems. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design software architectures, and guide junior engineers — helping shape the future of Paymentology’s technology.</p> <h3>What you get to do:</h3> <ul><li>Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, including architectural discussions, code reviews, and mentoring junior members.</li><li>Collaborate with product management and tech leads to analyse and clarify software requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals.</li><li>Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions, writing efficient code and applying best engineering practices.</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability across systems.</li><li>Ensure software quality through unit testing, code review, and continuous integration processes.</li><li>Participate in estimation and project planning, providing accurate forecasts and technical insights.</li><li>Contribute to process improvement initiatives, enhancing coding standards, peer review practices, and documentation quality.</li><li>Stay updated with emerging technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into development practices.</li><li>Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including design documents, specifications, and API references.</li><li>Collaborate across teams to deliver reliable software that meets business and customer needs.</li></ul> <h3>Requirements</h3> <p><strong>What it takes to succeed:</strong></p><ul><li>Proficiency in Java is required, Kotlin or Scala experience is a plus.</li><li>Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns.</li><li>Knowledge of database systems and proficiency in SQL.</li><li>Proficiency in software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and SOLID principles.</li><li>Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), IDEs, and issue tracking tools like JIRA.</li><li>Experience with unit testing and/or Test-Driven Development (TDD).</li><li>Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.</li><li>Excellent teamwork and communication skills, particularly in remote-first environments.</li><li>Continuous learning mindset with a passion for innovation and technical excellence.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.</li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>Education and Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred, though equivalent work experience may be considered.</li><li>3+ years of experience in software development roles, showing progressive growth in technical scope and leadership.</li><li>Experience contributing to complex software projects from design to delivery.</li><li>Hands-on experience in Agile development, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.</li><li>Experience with frameworks and tools such as Spring Boot.</li><li>Familiarity with cloud environments preferably AWS.</li><li>Experience of troubleshooting and debugging complex production systems.</li></ul> <h3>What you can look forward to:</h3> <p>At <strong>Paymentology</strong>, it’s not just about building great payment technology — it’s about building a company where people feel they belong and their work matters.
