Our teams take the undifferentiated heavy lifting off Elastic's engineering organization — building and operating the services that let other engineers develop, ship, and run software at scale.</p> <p>What does a Software Engineer II do here?</p> <ul> <li>Ship code that engineering teams across Elastic rely on</li> <li>Learn from experienced engineers while owning real work</li> <li>Build expertise in Go, Kubernetes, and the cloud-native ecosystem</li> <li>Find your specialty and grow with the team</li> </ul> <p>The role is fully distributed — collaboration happens every day over GitHub, Slack, and Zoom!</p> <h2><strong>What you will be doing</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Build features and components for production services</li> <li>Take ownership of well-scoped pieces of larger projects, from requirements through production</li> <li>Propose technical solutions and bring them through to working code</li> <li>Pair with senior engineers on harder problems and ask clarifying questions early</li> <li>Participate in code reviews and design discussions</li> <li>Helps operate the services we own and take part in the on-call rotation</li> <li>Investigate incidents beyond the runbook and leave them better for the next person</li> <li>Automate repetitive work through code</li> <li>Communicate status and blockers early and often</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What you will bring along</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Hands-on experience writing services in Go, or strong proficiency in another systems language with motivation to ramp up on Go</li> <li>Working understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals (Pods, Deployments, Services, Operators)</li> <li>Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)</li> <li>Curiosity about distributed systems and how services communicate at scale</li> <li>Comfort working through ambiguity with support from more experienced engineers</li> <li>A collaborative approach: welcoming feedback, sharing context, learning from teammates</li> <li>Clear written and verbal communication in a distributed, async-first setting</li> <li>Care about the quality of work shipped — testing, observability, and operability</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Bonus Points</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Experience with Crossplane, Kubernetes operators, or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling</li> <li>Proven ability to seamlessly transition between different projects, codebases, or scrum teams based on dynamic business priorities</li> <li>You work autonomously and can drive decisions and results in a distributed team by leveraging asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication</li> <li>Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate feature development, debug complex systems, and optimize existing codebases</li> <li>Background working in a cloud-based SaaS environment or on a developer platform</li> <li>Familiarity with the Elastic Stack or other observability tools</li> <li>Open source contributions of any kind</li> <li>Experience supporting production services through an on-call rotation</li> </ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="description"><p>Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. Salary ranges are established based on a combination of external market benchmarks, internal pay equity considerations, and the responsibilities and complexity associated with each role.
